Hotel Schlossgarten in Neustrelitz
Nach Verlegung der Residenz des Mecklenburg-Strelitzer Herzogs Adolf Friedrich II. in das ehemalige Jagdschloss Glienecke nahe der alten Residenz Strelitz entwickelte sich insbesondere in Folge eines Aufrufs des Landesherrn aus dem Jahre 1733 die Stadt Neustrelitz als spätbarocke Stadtgründung mit einem großen quadratischen Markt und acht strahlenförmig davon abgehenden Straßen.
Stadtbildprägend bis heute ist das klassizistische Wirken des Schinkel-Schülers Friedrich-Wilhelm Buttel, der namhafte Gebäude, wie das nicht mehr existierende Schloss, die Schlosskirche, die Kavalierhäuser, den Turm der Stadtkirche, das Rathaus, die Orangerie u.a. umgestaltete bzw. errichtete.
After the residence of Mecklenburg-Strelitz Duke Adolf Friedrich II. was relocated to the former Glienecke hunting lodge near the old Strelitz residence, the city of Neustrelitz developed as a late-Baroque city foundation with a large square market and eight radial towns, particularly as a result of an appeal by the sovereign in 1733 roads leading from it.
The classicist work of Schinkel's student Friedrich-Wilhelm Buttel, who redesigned and erected well-known buildings such as the no longer existing castle, the castle church, the cavalier houses, the tower of the city church, the town hall, the orangery, and others, has shaped the cityscape to this day.
Neustrelitz als langjährige Hauptstadt des kleineren mecklenburgischen Teilstaates hat sich bis heute eine einmalige kulturelle Vielfalt bewahrt, zu der u.a. das Landestheater, die Deutsche Tanzkompanie, das Fabrik-Kino, die Festspiele im Schlossgarten (Deutschlands größte Operettenfestspiele), die Plastik-Galerie in der Schlosskirche, das Museum und der Tiergarten gehören.
Mit Ihrer Lage inmitten der Mecklenburgischen Klein-Seenplatte und zwischen den beiden Teilen des Müritz-Nationalparks ist die Stadt ein idealer Ausgangspunkt für eine mehrtägige Erkundung der stark durch das Wirken der letzten Eiszeit geprägten Landschaft zu Land und zu Wasser (Havel-Wasserstraße).

With its location in the middle of the Mecklenburg Small Lake District and between the two parts of the Müritz National Park, the city is an ideal starting point for a multi-day exploration of the landscape on land and water (Havel waterway), which was strongly influenced by the effects of the last ice age.
